GIS Data:
A wealth of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) data
is available for the Town of Bolton at little or no cost. A great
deal of this data is available for free download from the VGIS website
at http://www.vcgi.org. You can use
the interactive mapping features of the Vermont Interactive Map Viewer, or download GIS datasets from the VGIS Data Warehouse to be accessed on your own computer, using special software. The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission is another source of GIS data. Contact Pam Branagan, CCRP's GIS expert. For archived and historic paper and film orthophotos, contact Bill Johnson at the state Tax Department: 802-828-5867.
Orthophotos:
The Vermont Center for Geographic Information collects "orthophotographs" of all towns in the state on a periodic basis (about every 12 years). These special aerial photographs are georeferenced and corrected to meet national map accuracy standards by the State of Vermont and are available in both paper and digital format. If you would like paper copies of these maps, please check the VCGI website.
If using the interactive map viewer, you need to zoom into an appropriate resolution before the orthophoto layers will be available.
Software:
GIS datasets are designed to be manipulated and viewed
in GIS software, such as ESRI ArcView. Free versions of this type
of software are available for download from ESRI's website,
http://www.esri.com/software, or use this link.
Other Mapping Services:
You can also find a wealth of map data and satellite photos of Bolton at many online mapping sites, such as Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, MapQuest, Google Earth and a host of other websites.
