PERMITS & ORDINANCES

• The Town has the following ordinances or policies in place:

• ALL construction requires a permit. There may not a fee, but you do need a permit.
• You need an Access Permit to construct a new driveway.

ANIMALS

• Dogs must be licensed EVERY year by April 01. Neutered and spayed animals are $5 others are $7. There is no regulation for cats. There is an animal control ordinance.

VOTING

• Voter registration can be done any time the office is open. You must be a registered voter IN THE TOWN OF BOLTON to participate in voting in the Town. Town Meeting is held the first Monday night in March with voting on the first Tuesday. The Monday night meeting is preceded by a pot luck supper. Voting takes place at Smilie School on Rte 2 from 7am to 7 pm.
• On even number years (2002, 2004, 2006 etc.) the state holds primary (September) and general(November) elections for state officials. Every 4 years (2004, 2008 etc.) the federal government holds presidential elections; primaries in March and general elections in November. The same rules apply as with local voting.
• Bolton is in Chittenden County and is part of the Chittenden-8 Legislative District, which includes Bolton, Jericho and Underhill. Our representatives are Gaye Symington (D- Jericho) and William Frank (D- Underhill). Our representatives to the Vermont Senate are James Condos (D-South Burlington), Edward Flannagan (D-Burlington), James Leddy (D-South Burlington), Virginia Lyons (D-Williston), Hinda MIller (D-Burlington, and Diane Snelling (R-Hinesburg).

TRASH

• The Town belongs to the Chittenden Solid Waste District and has access to the drop-off stations in Richmond, Williston and elsewhere. Call 872-8111 for more info.

SCHOOL

• Bolton is part of the Chittenden East Supervisory Union (CESU). Pre-K through Grade 4 students attend the Smilie Memorial Elementary School located on Route 2. Michael Woods is the principal and the number is 434-2757. Grades 5 through 8 attend Camels Hump Middle School in Richmond. Ralph Garbart is the Interim Prinicpal at 434-2188. Grades 9-12 attend Mount Mansfield Union High School in Jericho. Jen Botzjorns is the Interim Principal at 899-4690.

• School cancellations for bad weather are announced on the radio.

TAXES

• ONE TAX BILL IS MAILED EACH YEAR. It has 4 stubs to return with payments.
• Due dates are the 15th of September, November, February and May.
• Post marks of the due date are acceptable. Post dated checks, for the first three installments, are also accepted but you need to notify the Office before hand.
• Payments can be made weekly or monthly if you call the office.
• Delinquent notices for late installments are sent monthly. Interest on late installments is 1% per month. Delinquent taxes are assessed an 8% penalty

BOARDS, OFFICE HOURS AND MEETINGS, ETC.

• The Town Office is open Mondays through Thursdays from 7am to 4pm.
• Zoning Administrator Dick Ward is in the office on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 4pm.

• The Town has a five member Select Board that meets on the 1st/3rd Mondays of each month. The local school has a 5 member board and a representative to the MMU District. The local board meets on the 1st. Wednesday. All meetings are open to the public. Please call for an appointment if you wish to speak to a board at a meeting.
